Devil May Cry is agreed. 1, 3, and 4 are some of my favorite games. 2 isn't as good because it's... easy. The original DMCs are all at least a little challenging and get VERY difficult on higher difficulties.  Especially if you're new to the genre. If you want adventure shooters (have to throw them out there), Mass Effect (1 recommended over 2) and BioShock are great ones.

Though easy, I thought it was a lot of fun because the controls were far better than the first game (though the 3rd had a perfect blend of difficulty and controls in that both aspects were better than its predecessors). And Mass Effect. God yes.
