So, about a year ago, MIT partnered with Harvard to try to start offering our courses online to help educate the world. Mind you, this is only the beginner courses and not the advanced stuff, but edX is the result. It's now powered by multiple universities as well, meaning it's becoming pretty powerful. (I also read today that Stanford will likely be joining the group of colleges powering this.)

I was talking with some MIT 2010 grads (both mechanical engineers), and they were taking 6.00x (https://www.edx.org/courses/MITx/6.00x/2013_Spring/about) this spring, trying to get a refresher in programming and learn more about it.

Any of you ever try to take online courses form a different university? Anyone ever used edX? How about MIT OpenCourseWare (MIT OCW - ocw.mit.edu)

This is actually very well thought out. I wouldn't mind taking some of these to learn a thing or two!

The prestige schools make it worth looking into.

Exactly. I've been told that the 6.00x class is identical to that class at MIT, so that'd mean the same great caliber. :P
