This is simple. I was wondering how to make simple borders. I tried doing it by increasing the canvas sizeby 1 pixel, but that wasn't right. So if anyone could help me out here, I'd appreciate it.

Right click the layer you want to add a border to.
Layer Styles > Stroke > 1 px > 000000
Or...
New Layer, Ctrl + A, Edit > Stroke > 1px >Inside > 000000

Just go to edit, stroke and then choose the preferences.
