BE WARNED: MAJOR SPOILERS MAY APPEAR PAST THIS POST. So, I went and hooked up my GC today (for the first time in god knows how long), and I played RE4. I was mainly just getting back into the swing of things. Meaning, killing parasites and the such. Well, I'm on the island (chapter 5, disc two) and I'm at the first regenerator still... god those guys suck. >_< Buy anyways, thought I'd post it up to see where everyone is and such.

I'm considering getting this game. Probably the new PS2 verson. Would you recommend this game?

I would, though I heard the PS2 version isn't as good. Something like, they numbed down the graphics but through in a few side games. If you do get it, the test is to see if you see the blood pour out of Leon's neck after he gets beheaded by a chainsaw.

Well, it's a trade-off.
The GC version has better load times, slightly better graphics (stuff like handling more enemies on the screen at one time), and (from playing a friend's version) has better controls. Not to mention that by now, it's cheaper.
However, the PS2 version also has extras to make up for that (a couple new weapons, slightly different gun looks for a couple weapons, one new costume for both Leon and Ashley, and Separate Ways, a new mini game with Ada).
But, if you're a PC guy and love mods, you might want to wait for the PC version, since the mod community is bound to make stuff for it (although Ubisoft is publishing it, with Capcom doing the dev work...WTF?).
So, it's up to you. I'd get the GC version since it's cheaper by now, and in my opinion has a little better of an atmosphere. Plus, most of the time ports just don't add up to the original (then again, it's not a straight port, but whatever), unless it's a remake or something.
AND WHOAMG @ CDZ POSTING IN THE VIDEO GAEM BORD
I think you came in here by mistake. But good luck beating it, since you're bound to do it soon. Hopefully. Anyway, I already beat it once. Got all the characters in Mercenaries, and also got the Chicago Typewriter from Assignment Ada. I started a second run-through (proof of how awesome the game is since I rarely start another playthrough in games...although the fact that all your stuff carries over is probably why I did it), and was gonna get the Infinite (rocket) Launcher, but kinda just stopped playing somewhere in Chapter 3.

Yeah, I forgot to post back. Well, I beat the first regenerator, and SO, you're wrong. The mine launcher does have a use. I also beat the second one. Then I got owned by the third cause I only had my semi-auto sniper and 50 bullets for it left. Wait... !@%^!$% I had grenades!! >_< Oh well. I saved after beating the first two (the second one scared me, cause I wasn't expecting it.) I'll try again later today assuming I get time.

Yeah, the story's not bad. It has an interesting premise, but there wasn't that much story progression. Then again, I guess if I want a story I'll go play an RPG. Putting in a backstory like the Krauser/Leon deal was a nice touch, though, but I guess I feel like they could've added more.

Sssh, he doesn't know who Krauser is yet. I feel proud. I completely, udderly owned 4 regenerators and 3 iron maidens today. Anyways, I'm right past the wrecking ball room, at the shop keeper. I've bought the tactical armor. Only upgrade left on my pistol (which ever one you recommended SO) is the super, ultimate, power upgrade thing. I'm about 20k off of it. I'm in chapter 5-2, probably half through or so. I'll probably play some more tomorrow night cause I don't have to go to school on Friday. Track rules.

IM playing it again on pro mode on GC, been awhile since i played it, and all i can say is knifing on pro mode is more fun xD. And playing in the seckzey RPD uniform is great. Though i miss my maxed up weapons. I think ill powerup the old style rifle instead of buying the upgraded faster version.
As for mercenaries i need to beat one level with leon and one with ada on 5 stars before i get my handcannon =D

I just got the punisher power up i forget what the call it but it's as strong as the broken butterfly now(magnum) i have one more upgrade left onthe striker shotgun and thats complete also.

You guys shouldn't upgrade your weapons that much. Well, I guess it doesn't matter in the end since they'll be worth more pesetas. You need 1,000,000 to get the Chicago Typewriter.
I figure the ultimate inventory would be a CT, fully-upgraded Handcannon, fully-upgraded SAR, and the rest of your inventory filled with herbs and grenades. I have all that minus the Handcannon. =/
