I've noticed that if I turn my external monitor off while photoshop isn't running then back on, then boot photoshop, it will reset my workspace (the way i have the boxes laid out).
It isn't a huge deal because I have my workspace saved. I was wondering if anybody had a workaround to this; it does get a bit annoying sometimes

Only way I could think of is to turn Photoshop on while the external monitor is on and move PS over to the main monitor before quitting and disconnecting.
