I still play Brawl occasionally but I'm terrible.

what are the tourneys like (if you've been to one)?

This'll be my first. Short of maybe MLG (which isn't hosting melee tourneys anymore), they're pretty informal. Usually a member of the community decides to host and places a venue fee to pay for rent and prize money. Participants are asked to bring their own controllers, and if they can, tvs, wiis, extension cables, etc. Occasionally, for an additional fee, catering is included, but not for this one. Certain stages are banned because they give a character a particular advantage, and several stages are open to counterpicking if a player is down by 2 in a best 3/5 match.

Sets for singles are best 2/3, and for finals 3/5. Basically, you prop yourself in front of the t.v. and play yourself up the brackets.

I'm not that great at brawl either.

But it looks like it'll be pretty fun.
