That's an opinionated ranking though.

He means you should only learn what you need to know. And that's different from person to person.

That may be true, but this article bases the ranking on the most-needed programmers. You mean the most-needed languages? If that be the case then they should at least change the title of the article.

No it's neither. It's not statistically based at all. Even the number of jobs listed at the bottom show that it's not a statistically based article. It's just someone's opinion on what they feel is growing and is important. AJAX is not a language, and therefore shouldn't be on there. Even more proof that it is opinionated.
If you wanted to find a statistically based one for the most oppurtunity you would take the number of jobs and multiply it by the average cash paid per job. Then you'd get a good sense of what languages are "most needed."
Even still you should probably learn other languages that have better oppurtunities for different fields and unexplored abilities.

Have to agree completely that its an opinion. Also, they admit that AJAX isn't a language if you read under it Eric; though you've ratted me out for that before. So I shouldn't be talking.

I read it, I know that they recognized that it wasn't a language, but a truly statistical based list would not include it.

Pretty dumb if you find JavaScript more useful than Java. The world could live without AJAX and JS is good for what it does but it used to simply make websites dynamic. It's not needed in a lot of cases and is sometimes overused. As for C making the list and not C++ is mind boogling. To me, an OOP based language is better than one that isn't where C isn't and C++ is. And calling JS an OOP based language is going a bit far. Once JS gets more structured with OOP like how C++, Java, and even PHP are then we'll talk. I agree with you 100% Haha, "mind boogling"

They never said what was more useful, they're saying where the jobs are at They aren't really doing either. They are just picking some stuff they like and making an article on it.
