The only thing thats different between yours and mine is the edges on this tutorial will blend into the background color to give it that smooth look
|

I make my smilies this way too, except I don't use the stroke and inner glow part. Although that's a pretty good idea if you don't want the anti-alias matte to mess the border up while still keeping a transparent background.
