Actually, it turns out that Cisco canceled the trademark in '05, so there may not be a case after all.

I saw this on another forum. Looks awesome! The only problem is that Apple wont allow Third Party applications and that you wont be able to use the iTunes store on it, everything has to be don't via your home computer.

what about the whole mess Apple's in cos of getting sued? they;re still going ahead?

It's complicated:

• In 1999, Cidco Electronics registered the trademark "iPhone."
  
• In 2000, Netgear bought Cidco, and thus purchased the trademark, as well.
  
• In 2001, Cisco bought Netgear, and the trademark, again.
  
• However, in order to keep a trademark, every 6th anniversary the company that owns it has to file an Intent of Use claim, which states that they are either currently selling a product under that name, or are developing a product to be sold under that name. Cisco did not have a product called the iPhone until 14 days before the deadline (there is a 6-month grace period until the trademark goes to the next in line).
  
• 2 1/2 years ago, when Apple started development of the iPhone, they created a corporation in the UK, which had no employees, then used an attorney from the U.S. to file for the trademark, so that no one would be able to find out that Apple is producing a phone (all USPTO files are public).
  
• Before Apple signed the deal to purchase the trademark from Cisco, they realized that they lied on their Intent of Use claim, thus nullifying it.
  
• If Cisco loses the case, then the trademark would go to the company that Apple created, which they could buy for $1, and also buy the trademark.

I don't know what to say..but to watch how iphone handles things.
Personally, I think Nokia fared better than the iphone XP

I second that. I'd much rather buy one of the cells from the Sony Walkman Phone series or Nokia's N91 cell.

I don't think they made the iphone very public... I've seen very few commercials for it :\

These iPhones are a piece of crap for $599. Then again, so were the iPods, and then people started buying them.

Its just like every other product out there. An attempt to make alot of money, and start a trend.

True but some products are good. IPods are very cool and convenient.
