The series is kinda' popular in UK... pssh.  Never played any of 'em though..

I find it slightly enjoyable to relieve stress. There's nothing like killing 2000 guys (literally) with a sword and few arrows.

Ever since I played Dynasty Warriors 3 on my PS2, I loved it.
I love games like this where it's magic mixed with big battles, swords and other close encounter weapons.
Plus the game imo is fast paced, which I love. I hate slow ass games. So boring.
This is why I also love stuff like Tekken, Onimusha and others similar.
