Yeah, I'd recommend working with something at 256px by 256px drawing up the smiley, and the saving it at 256px2. Then just resize the image to about 16px2, correcting anyy flaws then. It's good like that, because then, if you get rippers, you have undesputable evidence that you are the author. Also, keep all your PSDs.

Nah, it's not. I'm just crap at explaining it.
This is how the idiot, sat at my computer, should've put it:
1. Do your smiley on a medium size image (about the size of your avatar).
2. Save it (for a master).
3. Resize the image (about 16px by 16px).
4. Save the small image under a different name so you don't overwrite the master.
5. All done.

Yeah, I totally fail at smilies. Just can't seem to do them. I usually try to do something animé style, but fail because of the limited size.
