So, since early last semester, I've been taking advantage of the fact Windows 7 has built in random backgrounds. Been loving it. I realized though, that if I was a heavy desktop user, that random backgrounds would suck since it'd be confusing at times. Do you use random backgrounds? Why/why not?

Kind of? I have it cycle through 4 different Rihanna wallpapers.
DON'T YOU JUDGE ME.

I think it'd be cool to have a background that changes from day to night as it gets later.

I think it'd be cool to have a background that changes from day to night as it gets later. That'd be pretty entertaining. I don't think it'd be too hard to do either. I know 7 supports non-random changing at specified intervals...

Rihanna is ugly. How is that approved? Also, her music sucks. It used to be good, but now it's the same old shit garbage.

She used to be fine, before she started trying to look like a hard ass, which is also when her music went to shit. Now I just want to go Chris Br--oh wait. And yes Xuzi, that's exactly right. I fucking hate her umbr ella.

While it looks interesting, I don't think it'd help me too much given that I'm always using my laptop in different environments (i.e. rooms, indoors vs outdoors, etc.)

Have used this functionality, but don't anymore seeing as I'm using GeekTool. So the text would be readable on some wallpapers and not on others. Other than that reason I like the functionality, makes it less boring to look at your desktop at times.

You could just do that and it would be readable on all background, for the most part.

Hmm, I've had another look through all the font settings and everything and can't seem to find any for a drop shadow on text. I can give the whole box a background, but that's just hideous

I remember someone on MacThemes posting how to do it a year or two ago. It is possible.

Hmm, that might as well have been GeekTool 2. I've seen more info on GeekTool 2, which seems to be quite different to GeekTool 3. I've have a look if I can find anything more about it. Edit: So I found a topic regarding the text shadow. It might have been the one you mentioned. All I had to do is widen my font window and the settings showed up. Thanks for the info.
