Hello. I started a new project a few days ago, and I named it: Magazine Manager. What is Magazine Manager?Actually you might be able to guess: It is a manager for a magazine. It has an admin panel, where you can add magazine's with 8 / unlimited pages which can contain HTML (so also images). Then people can comment on the magazine. What version is the first one you are making?I'm making version 0.1 now. Will MM be free?Well, yes and no. There is a free version, and a paid version. What are the functions in the free version?- Up to 8 Pages - Comment on magazines - Archive for older magazines - Admin Panel -- Add Magazine -- Edit Magazine -- View Archive -- up to 2 Templates What are the functions in the paid version?- Unlimited Pages - Comment on magazines - Archive for older magazines - Admin Panel -- Add Magazine -- Edit Magazine -- View Archive -- Edit Layout --- Background Color --- Font Color --- Font Type -- Unlimited Templates Please tell me what you think I'll post screens as soon as there is a bit more coding

Well, it sounds interesting. Its one of those, you'd have to see things. Only thing I suggest is an open demo for the paid version so they know what they're getting.

Previews will come for both free and paid version. Also I have added something new: Templates. Moose suggested it

is this going to be remotly hosted? cos like CD said if people get hold of the source they could easily add the features for the paid into the free ones..

I said that? :S If it is remotely hosted, I wish you luck.

And they are allowed to add features for their own but if found out that they change stuff to make it like the Paid one they will get problems. As it will be released under the GNU licence.

Hmm...the thing is that under GPL, once some pays for the paid version, he or she can distrube it for free.

They can do, but thanks to my system it has a "serial" wich can be used on 1 place at a time. If used more, they all get blocked until there is 1 left.

Then you can't distrubute it under the GPL

Then you can't distrubute it under the GPL The free one will be destributed under it. The paid one doesn't need it

This defies the whole point of open source. If you want people to be able to modify it, make it GPL and open source. If you want it just to really entice people for the paid version, a demo version if you will, make it freeware. On a seperate point, what will you be using to make it? PHP and MySQL?

Flatfile or MySQL would be the question, though I can assume he'll be using MySQL for most of it.
