leik wo i no rite?! Yeah, I finally got a copy for PC (it's a pain to track down.) After about 2 hours of searching for hacks and mods, I also got it to run in windowed, a necessity. [Possible spoilers. Nothing huge] Anyways, I'm addicted. Not very far along yet though. I'm out of Midgar and onto Kalm now. I'm currently in the flashback though. I must save, I'm impressed despite the crappy graphics. The fighting system isn't bad and is interesting. The plot moves a little too slowly for my taste and can be fairly predictable. But yeah, just figured I'd mention. Another RE4 thread it shall be, right SO?

Yeah, there is. They're rather hard to track down as I said before. One of my friends ended up having it, so instead of asking around for a PS1/2 version (since I finally have one), he just lent me his PC version. So far, I'm addicted. It may actually impact v3. <.< Nah.

But yeah, just figured I'd mention. Another RE4 thread it shall be, right SO? You bet your ass it will. But yeah, the game gets much better after you leave Midgar...which you've done...hm. Well, once you start getting summons it gets pretty awesome. Try not to get raped by the Midgar Zolom passing the marsh. Although you'll be coming back to kick his ass many times once you're leveled enough. Don't forget to get as many one-time-only items as you can, though, this game has a lot of them (but not as many as FFIX). I missed two summons on my playthrough, which pissed me off 'cause I got practically everything else. Well, there's this materia later on that actually has all the summons, but it's the principle of the thing. I'm about to reveal plot details so I'll stop posting for now.

Yeah, I've missed a few of those one-time-only items... one was just an All Materia though. I've missed Turtle Paradise #1 though, but I hear you can get it again later, so I'm not concerned. Anyways, I've got both Yuffie and Vincent, and here's my (basic) stats for my typical party: (I just *got* to Nibeilheim, minus the typos.) Cloud Level 31 HP 1578 MP 266 First four limits Yuffie Level 31 HP 1265 MP 244 First three limits Tifa Level 30 HP 1202 MP 250 First two limits Cloud obviously has my HP Plus Materia (which is close to leveling), so that's his health boost. I need to go through and level my other characters though, since no one else is above 30 and only one is 29 (Vincent). Rest are 26 or 27. But yeah, so far I'm enjoying the game quite a bit. It can be a bit slow, but it gets interesting, ignoring the "engrish" ... and the fact I'm probably overleveled doesn't help. Oh. And I'm following the walkthrough at GameFAQs by A L E X. I used his for Tales of Symphonia occasionally and thus I figured his would be the best. Hasn't let me down. I try to only use it for the missable items though. His item check list is helpful.

His is pretty good but I think BTB's guide is the best, though it doesn't have any checklists as far as I remember. That thing is a beast and has pretty much every minute detail the the game has to offer. But if you're printing pages I wouldn't go with it because of the space-occupying (yet amusing) side commentary.
But yeah, you're overleveled. And there's a lot of engrish, but the only one I can remember is Aeris saying "this guy are sick."
I don't remember what Turtle Paradise #1 is, so it can't be too important. And don't worry about All materia, you can get a bunch of those later on. Mastering them is the best way to get rich quick. I was so loaded by the end of the game I was spending money just because I could. It was great.
One-time-only items means you can only get them one time and that's it, not like all materia where if you miss one, big deal. Luckily some are covered by materia later on, but some aren't, and I can't remember which ones are important. It's been years since I've played this.
If you think the story's boring now, it should get interesting later, and even though I keep forgetting when and why, I do remember that it gets pretty twisted and convoluted in general. Not like MGS2-confusing, but it should get you interested.

Well, Disc 2 already. I unfortunately knew what happened at the end of Disc 1 before it happened ( ), but it was still a bit surprising. I've now gone snow boarding (was kinda fun. ) and am about half way up the mountain. I saved at some save point there. I continue to be overleveled despite the fact that a single... oh, it was some breath attack (not bad breath) that was an enemy skill. Anyway, it killed all but Yuffie who absorbed it and then proceeded to kick ass with Bahamut. Anyways, no stats this time. I'm lazy. I'm overleveled though. I keep coming to "hard" bosses according to the FAQ and rail on them endlessly.

I'd be bored if I had to level grind in a game like FF7. Even though I ended up doing it anyway to get all the limits and reach 99 for everyone. =/
I got the end of disc 1 spoiled for me, too, but the cutscenes and all the story details were still pretty interesting to get a hold of.
Have you gotten to the part with a guy named Hojo and Red XIII?
SO, Hojo and Red XIII is at the beginning of disk 1.... Well, here's where I am so far... See? This is really why I made this tag. Anyways, Diamond Weapon just attacked Midgar and proceeded to get its ass handed to it by a giant laser... err... "mako cannon" After that, Hojo is attempting to over power the generators or some crazy scandalous thing like that. Care to explain that to me though? I missed the explanation and I'm trying to find out what exactly is happening. (I'll just read a transcript if I have to though.) Yeah... stats below. CloudLevel 51 HP: 4698 MP: 540 VincentLevel 49 HP: 2492 MP: 510 YuffieLevel 52 HP: 2956 MP: 509 The rest are level 43 and 46.... I might wanna level them. Especially Barret so I can get his ultimate weapon since apparently I need him in my party to do so. Oh, and another question: The FAQ I read said you can get to see Lucrecia (SP?) by submarine. (She's behind the waterfall and eventually gives you Vincent's final weapon and limit break.) However, Ic an't find the path they described. Is it indeed possible to get there by submarine or do you need to have the [insert color] chocobo?

For the first one, I don't really remember. All I know is that the Shinra HQ at Midgar is trying to stop Diamond WEAPON from wrecking the city, so they fire Mako reactors or something at it. Then at the same time there's this cannon from Junon that's trying to break Sephiroth's barrier at the north crater. Somehow or other Diamond destroys Midgar but one of the cannons (the Junon one?) kills him. I don't remember anything about Hojo, but you might want to read a plot analysis FAQ or just re-read a general FAQ that talks about the plot. To be honest I just remember the cool FMV where Rufus is like "oh shit" and then whamkablamsrhrgjh. For the Lucrecia one, isn't her cave behind a mountain? If so you'd need at least a mountain chocobo (don't remember what color that is) and the submarine wouldn't help.

Ok, so I guess we said "screw it" to spoiler warnings. I'll read a plot analysis once I beat the game to figure out. Anyways, I got the weapon (and limit break) from Lucrecia. I had to go halfway around the world to find the underwater cave though. Quite a pain. But it's worth it once I start using those weapons. No growth for Materia is only slightly annoying, so they're on hold for now. I also just mastered my first fire, ice, and all. I haven't sold the all yet, but if it's 1.4 million like you said, then I'll be rolling in gil AND getting my gold chocobo... and playing games at the Gold Saucer. I want to be able to get Knights of the Round though since it's apparently all powerful or something. Oh, and the cut-scenes for summons are pretty much the best in the game. Bahamuts especially.

whoops I didn't put spoiler warnings because of a combination of forgetting to do so and thinking that no one else who comes to this board is playing this game right now. But I'll remember to put 'em in now. Also, Aeris dies.
of laughter
But it would suck if you went through trying to get her final limit break like I did.
Is there much of a point to getting her limit break? I mean, it's not like any of the fights to that point are hard. I also only have one person who has their final limit break so far (Yuffie I believe).
Not really, plus I think hers is healing or something.
You also use Yuffie more than anyone I've heard of. I don't remember her final limit break but I remember some of the other guys' being really super awesome.

I got Omnislash for Cloud finally. (Battle arena took a few tries to get used to. ) I haven't used it yet though... which sucks. Need to get around to that. I went ahead and cleared the Midgar plot and beat Hojo. I'm now on the final disc and ready to head to fight Sephiroth... or I would be if I didn't wanna do all the rest of the side quests. Damn me.
