Since the question is "This is widely known as the first video game console" and not "The first video games console", I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the answer isn't the Magnovox Odyssey (this is me trying to get the right answer :P).

So, I'm going to go for:
What is the Famicom/NES?

Crap. I missed the "widely known" part... so it's either Atari or NES. Probably NES though. =/

Widely known is a perspective...most people I talk to know that the Magnavox Odyssey was the first console. This question could be worded clearer. :P

Really? I didn't even know the Magnavox Odyssey was the first console. :P When I read your reply, I was like "huh?".

We shall await the master's decision.

That's kind of weird that you know so many people that know about the Odyssey, but it is the right answer. I said widely known because there was more than one console in development and there were a lot of unofficial projects and prototypes, but the Magnavox Odyssey was technically the first one that was released to the public in mass retail. I'll try to be more direct from now on but it's fun reading your guys' responses to vague questions.

Matt gets $1000 and gets to choose again.

Peripherals/Add-Ons -- $600
With recent cameos in games like Mario Kart DS and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, this obsolete NES accessory is still remembered in the hearts of Nintendo employees

I'm sorry, the correct answer we were looking for was, "What was R.O.B.?" otherwise known as the Robotic Operating Buddy. I forgot about the Zapper, though, that was a good choice you guys came up with, but I don't know if they were both in MKDS and SSBB. I mean R.O.B. is a character in Brawl.

But...no one gets points for this question, so the choice still goes back to Matt to pick the next clue.
