store.theantcommandos.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=GTR-PS3-ADPTFound that a few weeks back. I just re-located it, today. From the looks of it, this thing was designed to allow use of Red Octane's original SG Guitar Controllers on the PS3. It's been tested and proven to work in GHIII for the PS2 & PS3, and GHI. It won't work in GHII because of something in the game that blocks use of other controllers. The reason I'm looking in to this is because, well, let's be honest. Activision SUCKS at making guitar controllers. The Les Paul and Kramer Striker controllers were a horrible stink of bad development. They go out too easily, and work... not very well, to say the least. Instead of focusing on the important stuff, they made the neck detachable. The only reason I ever detach it is if I'm putting it back in the box. Most other PS3 users would say the same thing. It's really just sad. A lot of people have been petitioning for a recall. Another reason this looks good is because PS3 users got extremely screwed. Activision's PS3 Les Paul controller requires a receiver in order to connect to the PS3. I'm not entirely sure, but I think this is because they cheaped out and didn't use BlueTooth wireless. Regardless, because of that one little thing, the original games are incompatible with the PS3. Although they play on backwards compatible PS3s (I know they do, I've tried it), the backwards compatibility mode disables use of the receiver. Because of this, the controllers can't be used. This makes the games pretty much useless. That's where this converter comes in. It works to re-enable use in backwards compatibility mode. However, Activision doesn't support things like this. They make it clear that using anything but their Les Paul/Kramer Striker guitar controller or a standard Sony Dualshock 2/3 controller is against the law. I'd like to see them enforce that. This converter enables use of the original SG controllers, which, compared to the current ones, were really good. However, Activision took their "blocking use of anything else" spree to the next level in GHII. They manually programmed the game to not allow anything other than the SG controller or the default Sony controller. Since this converter doesn't register as either one, it won't work. I'm sure somebody has cracked the game to fix that, but that's technically illegal, so we won't go there. Simply put, I would buy this thing to use one of my SG controllers with the PS3. I'm just sick of the Les Paul. That's all there is to it. So rather than splurging $60 on another one or similar controller, I think I'll just pay $20 to use my SG, instead. However, I still paid $50 for that. Either way, I lose. The whole reason for this converter is epic phail, and it's not Sony's fault. This is an Activision phail. Boo, Activision.

Do whichever method'll cost you less in the end.
Or threaten Activision.

I went ahead and bought it. I'll have it in a little under a week. You can bet I'll be sure to post about how it works. I'll try using my SG with GHIII on my PS3, and we'll see if it works better than my Les Paul.
