So I am really confused as to whether GLAM ROCK and GRUNGE ROCK are actually sub-genres or were purely created by MTV.

:P

The 70s saw metal rise ---- then there was punk and new-wave (or am I confused abt the order)??

Also what exactly IS Alternative Rock?? How do you define it??

I get NEW METAL.

But I seriously need somebody to explain rock sub-genres to me.

I think you mean Nu Metal.

As for Glam Rock/Glam Metal, it's just hard edge rock/metal where the band members would wear makeup, dress in frilly spandex, use too much hairspray, and generally look like girls.

Grunge is a crappy genre with such musicians as Kurt Cobaine who suck at playing music and sound "grungy" not from distortion and heavy playing, but crappy equipment and poor sound recordings. The genre lasted for about 5 years. I think I know why.

I love Nirvana and anything and everything about Nirvana and personally believe Kurt Cobain to be one of the best singers and song-writers of our times. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is in a category all of its own.

Grunge originated in Seattle. Most people give Nirvana credit for starting it up.

My favorite subgenre is indie rock.

1. I like Weird Al. he's funny sometimes. too bad, he sells like 10 CDs per album.

:P

2. This just touches upon how much I love Nirvana and why Nirvana was the best band in the world.

How would you classify the kind of rock where it sounds like a 8 year old pounding a stick on a pan?

Noise grind. A detestable genre of music which shares the audacity of Glam Metal and Christian Metal and calls itself...metal.

*shudders*

Listen to Grindcore. Now simplify the riffs and drum beats, add more distortion, and make the lyrics completely unintelligible, complete with a running bass of no more than like 3 notes and screams/growls with no style. You'll have yourself a Noise Grind band. There's like...5 of them and only one of them has ever become successful, but they weren't even Noise Grind when they started.

The fact that it's Christian while metal isn't. It's an oxymoron. Same goes for glam metal. I hate grunge, but thank god it killed glam. That sucked.
